  1. (19:1-22) The ritual of the red heifer: an unblemished red cow is sacrificed outside the camp, and then burned down to its ashes, which were then used for ritual purification of someone who had touched a corpse.
  2. (20:1-13) Moses brings water from a rock by striking it with his staff, but this contradicts God’s instructions to talk to the rock, so God tells Moses and Aaron that they will not lead the people into the promised land.
