Etz Ḥayim Ḥumash, page 840
Haftarah: Joshua 2:1-24, page 856

  1. (13:1-25) Moses sends 12 spies to scout the land of Canaan. After 40 days, the spies return bringing spectacular samples of Canaan’s produce.
  2. 2.(13:26-33) Ten of the spies report that it is, indeed, a good land, but that its inhabitants are too powerful for the Israelites.
  3. 3.(14:1-7) The Israelites panic, and despite the optimistic words of encouragement from Joshua and Caleb, they rebel against Moses and Aaron and even say they want to return to Egypt! Joshua and Caleb plead with the people not to believe the negative spies’ report and rebel against God.
