Triennial Cycle Year I: Genesis 41:1-52
Humash Etz Hayim, page 250
Maftir: Numbers 7:24-29, page 808

  1. (41:1-44) Pharaoh dreams of 7 lean cows devouring 7 fat cows, and 7 thin sheaves consuming 7 healthy sheaves. When none of his advisors can give him a satisfactory explanation, the cupbearer remembers Joseph, who is brought to Pharaoh and explains that there will be 7 prosperous years followed by 7 years of famine. He suggests that Pharaoh appoint someone to supervise a storage project to prepare for the famine. Pharaoh chooses Joseph.
  2. (41:45-52) Joseph’s wife bears him two sons: Ephraim and Menasseh.
