Professor Tal is visiting Stanford for a few weeks to work on Climate policy with his colleagues. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to tap into the mind of a climate activist on the world stage.
Confronting the Middle East’s Environmental Challenges with Alon Tal
Saturday, January 31, 2:00-3:30 p.m.
In honor of Tu Bi’shvat Alon Tal will speak to us about the environmental challenges in the Middle East.
Alon Tal is an Israeli environmental activist and leader (former head of Israel’s Green Party and Knesset member) — and currently a professor of environmental policy at Tel Aviv University.
He will speak on the topic Now that the War Is Over – Confronting the Middle East’s Environmental Challenges. The lecture assesses the sustainability challenges of the region, discuss the profound implications of the outcome of the present conflict on the future and consider possible visions that can lead beyond the very painful and destructive present dynamics. Priorities for the ecological restoration of Gaza are presented along with specific ideas for promoting regional initiatives to address the climate crisis. His book All the Trees of the Forest is an idiosyncratic history of trees in the promised land, and in his latest book Making Climate Tech Work, he attempts to demystify climate innovation programs around the world.
