Haftarah: 1 Samuel 20:18-42, page 1216

  1. (17:1-9) The prohibition of slaughtering animals any place except the altar.
  2. (17:10-14) The prohibition of eating blood, and the commandment to cover the blood when slaughtering an animal.
  3. (17:15-16) The prohibition of eating an animal that has died (nevelah) or been torn (trefah).
  4. (18:1-5) A warning to keep away from all the practices of the idolators.
  5. (18:6-30) A list of forbidden marriages and other prohibited sexual relationships, followed by a general warning to avoid abominable behavior and to follow God’s ways.
