Women’s Voices — From Torah to Contemporary Israel 29-Jan-11

Join us for a Salon with Rabbi Gail Diamond:
Women’s Voices — From Torah to Contemporary Israel
Sunday, January 29th, 7:00 P.M.
at Rabbi Pressman’s home
1660 Danromas Way, San Jose

Some Jews are convinced that it is forbidden to hear a woman’s voice singing in public.

Rabbi Diamond will lead us through a study of this issue, beginning with the following week’s Torah portion, B’shalah, which includes Shirat Hayam, the Song by the Sea — and women singing — up through religious and political conflicts in today’s Israel.

Rabbi Gail Diamond teaches Psalms at the Conservative Yeshiva and serves as the Yeshiva’s Associate Director.  In addition, she teaches an ongoing class in the Project Oded program at the Fuchsberg Center for Conservative Judaism and has taught for the Academy for Jewish Religion, Bat Kol Institute and other adult learning programs.

She graduated from Bryn Mawr College and received ordination from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College.  Rabbi Diamond served for seven years as spiritual leader of Congregation Agudas Achim in Attleboro, Massachusetts, before making aliyah in 2001.  She lives with her family in Tzur Hadassah, Israel.
