Noten Yad (Extending a Hand) Moving Forward
6/1/2010
Noten Yad volunteers have completed our first listening campaign. Over 80 congregants agreed to attend in-home meetings to air their community concerns. A big thank you to those of you that responded to our calls and agreed to attend the meetings and to our volunteers that hosted them.
A majority of the issues raised involved seniors, caring for aging parents, and the desire of many seniors to stay in their own homes a long as possible. Responses included:
- Transportation needs
- Finding care-givers
- Care-giver relief
- Visiting (buddy system)
- Evaluating care facilities
- Health care
- Home maintenance
- Activities
While there are many available resources for senior issues in our community, the coordinating committee believes that what is needed is a central place where seniors can get this wide variety of information and reliable support with one call.
Noten Yad will now begin to research the feasibility of establishing an organization to provide these resources for the South Bay community. If our research proves feasibility, we will proceed to an action phase with other faith-based organizations to make it happen.
What is Noten Yad?
Noten Yad is a new program focused on creating positive changes for our neighbors and ourselves that we define! We listen to the personal concerns and stories of our fellow congregants and turn them into action both within Beth David and in our wider community. To learn more, see the message form our Rabbis on the Beth David web site at http://beth-david.org/uncategorized/noten-yad-category/the-rabbis-announce-noten-yad/.
Do a little Tikun Olam (repair of the world) and lend us a hand.
