According to the Megillah: When Esther and Mordecai saved the Jews, everyone celebrated by sharing their happiness and good fortune in a very Jewish way…they sent gifts to one another! This outpouring of thanks and joy became the custom called “Mishloah Manot” – sending gifts to friends and family and to those in need.
