Sisterhood

Women's LeagueSisterhood of Beth David, an Affiliate of International Women's League for Conservative Judaism, is a vibrant part of the Beth David community. We are dedicated to enriching the observance and joy of Judaism in the Synagogue and homes of our members.

Our membership crosses a broad spectrum from working professionals to housewives, young mothers to grandmothers. Sisterhood of Beth David is the place for Jewish women in the community to come together to share prayer, education, laughter and tears with members supporting each other and the Shul. Our social activities have included Dances, Plays, Comedy Sports Nights and Concerts.

Many of our members are involved in ongoing Jewish education through the Adult Education Program at Beth David. Those members who have graduated the B'nai Mitzvah class and become active Torah and Haftorah readers readily volunteer their time to help other community members become proficient in liturgy and trope. We also actively participate in holiday education with the Religious School. At our Sisterhood Shabbat we always try to add something special to the service--whether it be a different tune for a prayer, something new to the drosh, or inviting our daughters to participate with us.

In addition to the supporting the Synagogue Adult Education Program, Sisterhood has sponsored education programs that range from crafts to Torah. With one of our programs in a past year, "An Introduction to the Imahot in Conservative Liturgy," we began a six-month process of education and debate, which culminated with the addition of the Imahot to the Congregation Beth David Shabbat services.
