Education is an unfinished symphony
(Zalman Aran, Minister of Education, Israel)

One of the less-known treasures we have from the vanished Jewish societies of Eastern Europe is the record books of thousands of Chevras. These were fellowships of Jews devoted to a particular mitzvah (like the Chevra Kadishah, which took care of the needs of the deceased and the mourners), and to study. In every community Jews met regularly to study Psalms, Mishnah, or Talmud. These were not scholars or rabbis, but simple Jews, artisans and manual laborers, whose lives were enriched by Jewish study. It’s a powerful testament to the Jewish commitment to life-long learning. At Beth David we take this tradition very seriously, and offer a wide array of study opportunities for a variety of interests and levels at many different times. We Jews are blessed with this rich tradition that speaks to every aspect and aspiration of our lives. Whether it’s beginning Hebrew reading, or Talmud, or a discussion of a Jewish book, Beth David is ready to welcome you into the world of Jewish learning.
