GOOD AND WELFARE

FINANCE
Income is $18K above budget, very close.
MEMBERSHIP
- 549 membership units
- Motion to approve the membership application for Diane and Doren Aronson and their second-grader. Approved: 17 yes, 0 no, 0 abstaining. Welcome!
ADMIN
- Some kitchen appliances aren’t functioning. We will be getting bids for repair. The kitchen is hot, so we’re getting bids to see if we can afford cooling.
- Yulia Shvartz has announced she’ll retire at the end of December. We’ll likely outsource to save costs. REsponsibilities would include A/P, financial reporting, and payroll—not A/R from members.
- Proposal to use the money saved for a professional marketing person. Using volunteers hasn’t worked; other synagogues have been out-marketing CBD. The person would publicize our events through all media channels.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Ricki Gafter will be chairing the board nominating committee.
RITUAL
- The board welcomed Rabbi Ohriner to our meeting! He has already met with many CBD groups.
- The installation for Rabbi Ohriner will be on October 23.
- A HUGE thank you to Madelyn and Dov Isaacs for organizing High Holy Day honors. The office is arranging security services.
ADULT EDUCATION
- August 29, a session on High Holy Days
- Classes Monday and Thursday nights with Rabbis
- This year we’ll have programs following every Shabbat. One program will be learning melodies and histories of “Table Songs.”
- Brunch and Learn will be renamed to Sunday Seminar, to emphasize learning and deemphasize any food.
RELIGIOUS SCHOOL AND HEBREW HIGH
- Our youth advisors are returning for another term.
- Hebrew High will start after the High Holy Days, and will include the Jewish Civics Initiative, including a trip to Washington D.C.
- Religious School is hiring a new 5th grade teacher to replace a teacher moving out of the area
ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
- Phone-a-thon will start in August
- Face-to-face meetings will start the same time
MEN’S CLUB
- 30+ people attended Giants’ baseball game
- Barbque and Barchu on August 27th.
NOTEN YAD
- We’ve sadly lost long-time member Jan Lipson in a bicycle accident. Jan was our Noten Yad representative. We will talk to the committee to see who will replace Jan.
EMPLOYEE HEALTH PLAN
Board members need to review a summary of changes to the employee benefit plan before voting to approve. Dave Hoffman will review and make a recommendation.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
- We have one open at-large position on the Board, for someone in charge of programming. Interested members are invited to contact president@beth-david.org.
- The Rothenberg family will be moving to the Auburn area, which will open Scott’s position on the board.
- The Annual Membership Meeting has been moved to Sunday, December 12th at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary
- Rotating Shelter program has lost funding. They will move to the case management or housing-first approach (get people into permanent housing and then give them support services (e.g., job search training). CBD will not have as much direct interaction with the people—perhaps we’ll have a food drive, or a monthly dental clinic in the parking lot, for example.
- August Exec Board meeting: Wednesday August 11 at 7:45 p.m.
- August General Board meeting, Wednesday August 25th at 7:45 p.m.
