Drash: (This House We Build, Ch 7: Beyond Membership: What Does it Mean to Belong to a Community? p.121-138) 7:50-8:00 Presented by Shelley Timmins. The chapter focuses on the theme that to be a Jew is to be part of a community. And a relationship with a synagogue, like any other, requires work and commitment to the relationship to succeed.
Congregation Israel Trip: 8:00-8:10 Rabbi Pressman
Motion:Resolved, that the Board of congregation endorses the Congregation Beth David Israel Tour for Families to be led by Rabbi Ohriner and the Congregation Beth David Israel Tour for Adults to be led by Rabbi Pressman, June 17-27, 2012, with the understanding that this will require no financial outlay by the congregation other than publicity costs similar to that of other congregational activities, to be funded by the Programs Committee budget.

Annual Campaign: 8:15-8:20 David Hoffman
- Already contacted 74 household units. 42 have agreed to pledge, resulting in $38,050 to date, more than 10% of the way.
Finance and Treasurer’s Report: 8:20-8:40: Steve Schlosser
- Finished August with net surplus of $35,000 income vs expense.
- Income is about $5,000 less via dues than was expected. Total of $10,000 behind including last month.
- The Finance Committee will prepare a report of first quarter expense vs targets.
Education Report (RS, Youth, Adult): 8:40-45: Steven Levin
- Visiting scholars weekend this weekend.
- “Preparing the Heart, Mind, and Soul for the High Holy Days” with Rabbi Amy Eilberg and Dr. Louis Newman
Membership Report: 8:45-8:500: Michael Herman
- Three new member families – Winograd family, Singer family, and Robert Silverman
Motion: Resolved, to welcome the new members to the congregation.

- Working on initiative to revise membership application
- In process of developing a membership committee, will likely convene after High Holy Days
- Working on bringing in more members of the Russian and Israeli communities
- Working on literature to be given to prospective applicants
- Initiative to bring in new members for an Aliyah soon after application
- Initiative to create a CBD document control system, to have the latest versions of released documents readily available
- Initiative to put something in the membership package that the dues are tax deductible.
Administration Report: 8:50-9:00 Tanya Lorien
- Admin committee working on employee handbook, aiming for February
- Work on website continues
- High Holidays preparation occupying much of the time/bandwidth of the office
- First edition of “Beth David Dvar” published
- Trash, Compost, and Recycle bins are put out around the synagogue
- Lights in parking lot and hallway are all fixed
- Timer on parking lot lights needs to be changed
CLOSED SESSION (personnel issue): 9:00-9:20
Motion: Resolved, the Board of Directors accepts the exercise of a one-year option/extension, contained in Rabbi Ohriner’s contract, made by Rabbi Ohriner in writing dated September 14, 2011.
Note: This contract with the option clause was approved by the congregation in May, 2010. A performance review for Rabbi Ohriner was presented to the board.Made by Roland King
