A synagogue is a Bet T’fillah: a House of Worship; a Bet Midrash: a House of Study; and a Bet Knesset: a House of Assembly. Congregation Beth David, as a Conservative synagogue, exists to fulfill these functions. And above all, our mission is to actively transform people’s Jewish lives through prayer, study and community.
As Bet T’fillah:
our goals are to affirm our belief in God, and to fulfill the Jewish ideal of “T’fillah B’Tzibbur,” communal worship and prayer.
As Bet Midrash:
our goals are to be a catalyst for Torah education for all members of the community; to communicate the concept of Torah in its broadest sense as the evolving body of Judaism’s religious/ethical teaching; and to link us with our people’s historical and contemporary experience.
As Bet Knesset:
our goals are to be a source for Jewish social and cultural integration; to enhance significant Jewish identification and involvement; to be a focus for commitment to Israel and World Jewry; to be an environment within which personal relationships and communal feeling are strengthened; and to provide support in times of trouble and offer a congregational context for celebration.
